Product Details

DATE: Vintage, c.1960

A cool vintage signet ring, the head carved with a boar head crest. It's modelled in 18k yellow gold and very substantial at 12.9g. Dates to the 1960's. The boar is frequently met with in heraldry. The boar is a symbol of intrepidness, a champion among wild beasts, and encounters enemies with great courage.

Celtic and Anglo-Saxon helmets had boar-head crests, and it was supposed to give protection to the warrior. Beowulf, in the Anglo-Saxon epic bearing his name, went into battle with a boar-head standard which was symbolic of his power as a leader.
